Chapters 24-27

Chapter 24: Family

It seems that Alice's Parents like me, so that is a plus, but then I still have the rest of her family to meet. It's been 2 days since we got here, I've been sleeping in the guest room out of respect for her parents, though I wish, I could stay with Alice. The last two days, have been wonderful, The snow lightly drifted down in a constant flutter. Me and Alice went out to the small park at the end of the road, just wandering around the place she grew up. I have had a taste of her mothers cooking, and found out why she was such a good cook.

Christmas is 3 days away, and today, Alice's Brother, and his family are arriving, along with her grandparents. So the house is going to be full, latter.

"Is there anything I should know about your grandparents?" I asked after Alice's Parents went out to pick up her surviving grandparents.

"Do not, mention the Bears," She answered. Sitting down beside me on the couch. Curling up under the blanket I was using. "Papa, will talk your head off about them. And then Granny, will want to give you her own inspection, and then say that you are too thin. Then Larry is another story, he'll be here in about 30 minutes."

"What?" I asked. "Your brothers almost here?"

"Yeah," Alice said snuggling closer to me. That was him on the phone just now. "He'll Grab you into a bear hug, and then he will treat you like your family no matter if you are or not. His Wife Janet, is a little stuck up, and his kids are a hand full on there own."

We sat there huddled under the Blanket, on the couch watching, It's a Wonderful Life, on the TV. Neither saying anything, just enjoying each others company when the Doorbell rang.

"Looks like your brothers here," I said as I grabbed the remote and Paused the DVD. "Come on, Alice, Introduce us."

I followed Alice to the door, and stood back as she opened it. There stood, Larry, Janet, and the Kids.

"AUNTE ALICE!" the two kids said running forward hugging onto Alice as she bent down to give them a hug.

I can see why Alice became a teacher, she is so great with kids. Which made me want to have kids even more. Because the way she cared would make her a great mother. "Um Hello," I said as Larry and Janet walked into the Forayer.

"Larry," Alice said standing up. "This is Rin."

Just at that moment, Larry put down the box he was carrying, and walked over, and grabbed me into a bone crushing hug. "So your the guy that my baby sister has fallen head for heels for?" He then let me out of the hug, and placed me at arms length, giving me a look over. "Welcome to the Family."

"I'm not family yet," I said with a smile looking over at Alice. "But, I'll play along. And you must be Janet," I said walking over and kissing her hand. As Alice said she was a bit stuck up.

"So your Alice's new Boy Toy huh?" She snipped. "Pleasure."

"Wheres mom and dad?" Larry asked Alice.

"Out at the station picking up Papa and Granny," Alice answered looking at the grandfather clock. They should be back sometime soon. Oh and Rin, this is Jack, and This is Jill, the Twins."

"Jack and Jill," I said, the old nursery rhyme running through my head. "It's nice to meet you two," I said as I bent down." to shake Jack and Jill's hands.

"So whats the sleeping arrangements this year?" Larry asked. "Since Rin's here, it's probably changed, or are you two bunking up?" He let out a devilish little Grin. For some reason he reminded me of Jason.

"Rin's Sleeping in the Guest room, Papa and Granny are sleeping in the other spare bedroom and the twins are going to be in the office," Alice Directed. "And you will be where you two always are. Just try not to make any more kids this time."

Larry looked as if someone had just stepped on his nuts and Alice gave me a look that said, I'll tell you the whole story latter.

The sound of the Garage door opening came a few minutes latter, and I got up with everyone to walk into the kitchen where Alice's Parents and Grandparents would be coming in from. We were all silent as they walked in. I stood there as they hugged and kissed each one of them, then Alice Introduced me to her grandparents, Her Grandfather was wearing a Chicago Bears Fan Jacket and as she said her grand mother just looked me over and Said I was too thin.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," I said. As she stepped back.

"So your the one that said 'I would walk to the ends to the world if it meant that I could be near her.'?" Alice's Grandfather asked looking me over.

"Yes sir," I answered looking him directly in the eyes. "And I meant it to."

"Alice," He said. "I hope you keep this one." He walked over and shook my hand. "Because I already feel like he's part of the family." I had to fight to keep my composure at that moment, because I was about to break down right then and there. I not even part of there family and then they accept me as one of them. That had to be one of the happiest moments, I have ever had. This must have been what Alice felt when she met my entire family.

Chapter 25: Christmas

The day is finally here December 24th, Christmas Eve. All I have to do tonight is play the part of Alice's New Beau, give her, the decoy gift, and then tomorrow morning, spring the surprise.

I was up in my room reading a book when someone knocked on the door. "It's open," I said placing the bookmark into the book. As Larry walked in. "Oh hey Larry, what is it?"

I walked back down stairs at 6, the party didn't start till 7. "Alice," I said as I reached the Den. "You look beautiful." I walked over and gave her a hug. She walked out of the room following me into the Forayer. "What is it?" She asked as we were out of earshot of everyone.

"What was that all about?" Linda asked as we walked back in noticing the necklace. Everyone in the room seemed to look right at me, at that moment the only other person besides me who knew about it was Larry. Who just gave me a Wink and a look that said, nice one.

The rest of the night was a blur of people, I did not know, and conversations about me and my life, and my fabricated story of how I hooked up with Alice. No one must ever know the truth, only on my deathbed shall it ever be know. The party finally ended, at about midnight, as everyone started to leave. I offered to help clean up but they all sent me and Alice away. "You two need some time alone," Joesph said when I offered to help clean up. I tried to object but he kept pushing me away.

So it came to it, Jack and Jill were sound asleep in the room down the hall, as me and Alice walked up stairs. We walked into Alice;s bedroom, and sat on the bed.

"You know," I began. "That a Lover's knot is given as a symbol of undying love and affection for the person who is to receive it from the giver. Alice, I gave that to you because it was the only way I could show you how much I love you, with out proposing." I brushed my hand through her hair. And I gave her a kiss. "Forever and till death do us part, I will love you." I stood up, and walked out of the room. "Goodnight my love."

I walked into my room and changed for bed. I was just climbing into the bed when the door opened, and Alice walked in. "Rin," She began shyly. "Can I stay in here, with you?"

"Sure," I answered, as she walked over and crawled into the bed.

"Did you really mean all those things, you have said over the past week?" She asked looking me in the face.

"Every word," I said giving her a soft kiss. "And If I had to say them again I would. Alice, I love you and nothing will ever change that."

We looked at each other for a while not saying anything, we did not need words to say anything at moment. I reached over and turned off the light, and snuggled up next to Alice. I fell asleep rather quickly, with her warmth, comforting me, through the night.

I awoke the next morning, Alice sill asleep by my side. I did not want to disturb her rest so I just laid there watching her sleep. Her chest slowly rising and falling, a look of bliss upon her face. "Sleep well?" He asked looking at the two of us.

"Don't worry, I know nothing happened," Joesph reassured us. "Our room is right next door. When your ready come down stairs." He walked out of the room closing the door behind him.

We both got out of the bed, and I walked with Alice down the stairs, we both were in our Pajamas as we walked down stairs side by side. There was a rustling noise of paper coming from the living room, as Jack and Jill ripped the paper away from there presents. We sat down on the couch, and watched as they ripped through paper with such ferocity that it was scary. After a few minutes all that was left under the tree were gifts for everyone else. I wasn't expecting much, from anyone, as I watched the rest of the gifts passed around. Then there were two boxes left. Both of them for me. I couldn't believe it, I expected the possibility that Alice would get me something but the rest of her family? I slowly opened the box from Alice's Family first. Inside was a hand knit Scarf and matching hat. "Thank you all so much, I really didn't deserve anything from you, considering I just met you all just recently." Alice grasped my hand looking at me, almost ready to cry. I opened the package that was from Alice. Inside was a Jewelery box, containing a watch. "Oh thank you Alice," I said giving her a hug. I then turned to look at the watch. The face was a silverfish color with Golden Roman Numerals. I flipped it over to notice an inscription that read 'To the one I love always and forever'. For a few minutes there was a Silence in the room, Jack and Jill were both too young to understand what was going on, but remained silent. "Well who wants breakfast?" Linda said finally breaking the silence as she stood up. Everyone followed suit, I insisted that I help by carrying some of the stuff into the dining room. As we ate, aimless chatter ensued. I really didn't pay that much attention, I was lost in my own little world. Alice cared for me as much I do for her.

After breakfast I went back upstairs with Alice to get changed. "Alice," I said walking down stairs with her. "Care to go for a walk?" Going out for a walk would be the only way we would be able to get some privacy.

"Sure," Alice said as we reached the bottom of the stairs. "We just need to tell the others." We walked into the living room where everyone was watching A Christmas story. "We're going to go for a walk, we'll be back in a bit."

"Okay sweetie," Linda said. "You two have fun."

We walked back into the Forayer, I put on my Boots, and my Pea Coat, along with the Scarf, and Hat that Alice's Family gave me, while helping Alice put her coat on. The snow lightly fell as we walked down the street, arm in arm. "I read the inscription you had engraved into the watch." I stopped and turned to look at her. "To the one I love Always and Forever." As it began to pour heavier.

"You don't have to say anything," I cut her off, still holding her. "You do not have to say anything. We better get back the snows getting worse." as we turned back the snow poured down, around us.

Chapter 26: New Years

The past few days went by in a blur, me and Alice really had little time alone, I moved out of the Guest room and in with Alice, to no objection from anyone. And the only time we really had together was at night. But today is New Years Eve, and the day after tomorrow we are leaving for home.

The day went along just fine, we spent it with everyone, getting ready for the evenings festivities. I had no objections to going. Because it was nice to get out and see the town that Alice grew up in.

"Just kidding," Larry cut me off. "We don't care if you get drunk with us. Right dad?"

"Sure," Joesph said. "Just don't drink too much."

We got back to the house, I helped carry in the booze. The smell coming from the kitchen was that of heaven. "We're back." I said as I walked into the Kitchen carrying the box. "Well," I began. "I've talked it over with Paul and Jason, and asked Abel, about it. But it will only happen if you want."

The rest of the day went by without much else. I sat and read my book fir most of the day, and went upstairs to get a shower and changed, as 8PM rolled around. The Last movie ended at 11:30 and then the clock came into View. The great ball that dropped during the last minute of the year. Chapter 27: Moving In

For the past two weeks, me and Alice, have been busy on two fronts, Me with getting ready for another semester, of school, and both of us, getting the lease's taken care of. I have to take the truck back but you all decide on where we go for dinner, it's going to be my treat." I stood up, "I'll be back in about thirty minutes."

I hopped into the truck and drove it back to the place I rented it, and got my Car, I left there while I was using the truck. As I drove back, I thought about my life and whats becoming of it. I couldn't be happier, I had another year of college left and then I would take the next step in my life, when it came.

"Okay everyone," I said walking in the door. "I don't care where were going, get your asses in the car. And Alice is riding shotgun with me." We all piled into the Car, and headed out the drive way. Where is it you decided?"

Alice looked over and said, "Go to The Diner."

"An excellent choice," I said driving off towards The Diner.

I pulled up outside The Dinner, and I walked around to open the door for Alice. "It's Been a while boys," Karl said as we all piled in a booth. "And how are th two love birds?"

After we finished I dropped a 20 dollar bill bill on the table as we walked out. "C'ya latter Karl," I said holding the door open for everyone.

We all hopped back into the Car, and drove off to the Local Blockbuster looking for some movies to rent. "An American Werewolf in London, An American Werewolf in Paris, Wolf man, Dracula, Frankenstein, Looks like a horror movie fest," The clerk said as he rang up the movies.

"You wouldn't know the half of it," I said grabbing the Receipt and the DVD's as we walked out the door.

Back at the house, popcorn was popped the lights were turned out, and the movies began. Jason and Paul lounged to the long couch and me and Alice huddled to together on the Love seat. We were up until 3am watching movies. When the last movie finished we shuffled off in our separate directions. Jason and Paul, up stairs, and me and Alice to what was now our room.

"I never said I don't know how," I answered. "I'm just not that good of one." I turned back to the Griddle flipping the Pancakes over.

"Huh? Coffee done?" Jason asked groggily.

"Yeah," I said, pouring him a cup. "Maybe it will turn your brain on. Well the foods done, anyways. Try some." I fixed a plate and sat it in front of him.

"Well lets go on in," I said hopping out of the car and opening the door behind me grabbing the sweet potato pie, that Alice helped me make. And walking up to the front door, with her at my side. "Let me see, ah here it is." I opened the door, to the house and me and Alice walked in. "Mom, Dad, We're here."

"Rin?" My mom asked walking in to the entrance hall. "And you must be Alice." My mom said walking over giving Alice a hug. "It's nice to meet you finally. Rin has said so much about you."

"Okay mom," I said, trying to stop her from embarrassing me. "I'm right here you know. Besides we have something for you." I said as I handed the Sweet Potato Pie to her. "It's a Sweet Potato Pie."

"Oh Thank You Rin," And your dads in the Den, with Your Uncle Ian, watching the game why don't you two go say Hello."

"Will do mom," I said giving her a kiss on the cheek. I lead the way into the Den, and sure enough the foot ball game was on the TV, and Dad, and Uncle Ian. Were acting like a couple of idiots. "Hey, Over here, some one more important than the game just got here." I Yelled over the TV and them hooting and hollering.

"Is that you Rin?" Uncle Ian said as he walked over and gave me a Bear hug.

"Yeah," I gasped. "It's me Uncle Ian."

"And who is this charming young lady?" Uncle Ian asked turning to Alice.

"This, Uncle Ian," I began. "Is Alice."

"It's a pleasure to meet the both of you," Alice said politely.

"Rin," My dad said. "Can I speak to you for a minute in the other room?"

"Sure thing," I answered. "I'll be right back." I followed my dad into the other room, and closed the door behind me. "What is it?"

"So Thats Alice?" He asked.

"Yes," I answered. "Why?"

"Well," He began. "I thought she was..."

"Younger?" I cut him off. "Dad, shes 27, and correct me if I am wrong but isn't mom 10 years older than you are?"

"Yes," He sighed. "You are right. I fell in love with your mother when I was your age. And I had a time when my parents found out she was 10 years older than me. But then I know you are a smart kid. So I wont go into all that. Just long as you take good care of yourself and her, you have mine and hopefully your mothers blessing."

"Thanks Dad," I said as I gave him a hug. "I love Alice for who she is and She loves me for who I am. Besides I'm not planing on starting a family of my own until I get done with college, and she know that. You have noting to worry about."

He had ever right to worry, because he was afraid I would end up like him. He fell head over hills in love with mom, when he was 19 and she was 28, when he was college he was in college. They were so much in love, and then the family plans got kick started a little earlier than either of them had planned. He took his responsibility, and married my mom, but then dropped out of college, to support his family, and has worked in the same factory for the past 19 years.

"Okay Ian, hands off," I said walking back into the room. "Shes spoken for." Of course I was joking with Uncle Ian, because he has never been married, not because he can't find a girlfriend. No thats not the case, he thinks of him self as a permabachelor.

"You know I have a girlfriend," Uncle Ian retorted. "Besides, I wouldn't try to steal any one's special someone that I'm related to. I'm not that much of a heartless bastard."

"Why don't you go find June," My dad said. "I'm sure she would like to meet Alice."

I took the hint. June would be in the kitchen with mom right now. He meant for us to go be by ourselves for a while. But still June would like to meet Alice, and I haven't seen her since I moved out, either.

"Come on Alice," I said taking her by the hand. "I'm sure if mom and Dad like you June would absolutely love you." I lead the way into the kitchen, because I knew thats where June would be, because she always helped cook Thanksgiving dinner, ever since she was 12. "Hey June," I said as I walked into the kitchen. "Aren't you going to properly welcome someone back home?"

"Rin?" She asked turning around. "Rin it is you. Mom said you were home. But I've been stuck in here all day helping mom cook."

"Did mom tell you who this is?" I asked indicating Alice. "Or do I have to introduce you two?"

"Mom said you brought a girl home with you, but she didn't tell me who she was," June answered.

"Well June this is Alice," I answered. And Alice this is my baby sister June."

"I'm not a baby anymore," June Grumped. "I'm 15."

"Okay, okay, give me a break will you?" I replied. "but you'll always be my baby sister, squirt." I walked over and gave her a hug. "You doing alright in school?"

"I'm in the top 10 percent of my class," June cheered.

"Better than I ever did," I gave a wink to Alice. She knew exactly what I meant.

"It's nice to meet you June," Alice said walking over giving June a hug. "I hope we can become almost like sisters one day."

I knew exactly what she meant. Because she knows that I love her with all my heart and one day, would like to marry her. So it kind of made me smile. I could tell my family liked her, and she like them.

"I like Alice," June whispered into my ear. "I hope you to get married one day."

Did my little sister just say what I think she said? That was kind of a shock, but then if my family approves of her, then I see no harm. The only thing is. Will her family approve of me?

"I hope I do too," I whispered back into Junes Ear. "Come on,Alice. I'll give you a tour of the house, and June I hope you are making on of your great Pumpkin Pies."

"You bet I am," She chimed. "It's in the oven right now."

"Well thats good," I chuckled. "You always made a good Pumpkin Pie." I walked out of the kitchen with Alice following behind me.

"I like your family," Alice said as we went out of earshot of everyone. "Its quite quaint."

"You haven't seen the half of it," I laughed climbing the stairs. "My grandparents are still on there way here, and then theres my moms brother as well."

"You mean?" Alice started to ask.

"Yeah, theres 5 more people on there way here," I answered. "Uncle Bill, Grandma Rinna, Grandma Jane, Grandpa Thomas, and Grandpa Jim. Ian is my dads brother and a bit of a black sheep in the family. Then, with Uncle Bill comes Aunt Helen, and my cousins, Joyce, and Tommy. So we are looking at a packed house with 14 people. Ah here it is. Come on in." I pushed the door open, to my old bedroom. "Same as I left it."

"Wow, this is not what I expected," Alice said walking in. "I didn't think I would see so many books."

"Yeah," I said rubbing the back of my head. "I read a lot when I was younger, most of those are from before I turned 16."

"Tom Clancy, Nathanil Hawthorne, Homer, Stephen King, George Orwell, Shakespeare, Mary Shelly, Bram Stroker, J.R.R Tolkien, Mark Twain, Jules Vern," Alice ticked off names as she looked at all the books. "Quite a collection."

"Yeah," I said plopping down on my old bed. "'Reading is the key to unlocking our imagination.'"

"Thats pretty deep," Alice responded to what I had said. "Do you know who said that?"

"Yeah," I answered staring up at the celling. "Grandpa Thomas told me that. He's the same man who gave me my my most treasured book. It's over there, in that glass case. Thats what he said when I unwrapped it on my 13th birthday. It's a First Edition copy of Bram Strokers Dracula."

I stood up and walked over to where it was, and looked at it. The Vellum Binding on the book, was faded, and worn, and the pages yellowing with age.

"It's Quite a treasure," Alice said looking through the case.

"It's sentimental value is more than its price value," I said, putting my arm around her. "My great Great Great Grandpa, Abraham bought it as a gift for my Great Grandpa James on his 16th Birthday, back in 1898 then it was given to Grandpa Thomas, when he turned 16, and he gave it to my mom on her 16th birthday and she gave it to me on my 16th Birthday. This book has been in my family for 109 years and 4 generations, and I will give it to my first born on his or her 16th birthday." I leaned over and whispered into Alice's ear. "I hope that we will still be together when that day comes."

I could tell she was blushing a bit when I said that because she would not look me in the eyes, for a few minutes. "It's snowing," Alice finally said spoke. I looked out the window and sure enough it was lightly snowing. "To tell you the truth, I hope we are too."

I stood up and walked over to where she was standing, and was getting ready to say something when the door bell rang and snapped me back to reality. "Come on, lets go see who's here now."

As we reached half way down the stairs, my mom had opened the door, there stood Uncle Bill, Aunt Helen, and my two cousins Joyce, and Tommy. "Well look what the Cat dragged in," I sad as I reached the bottom step smacking Tommy on the shoulder and grabbing him into a hug. "Long Time No see. Whats it been a whole year?" I joked.

"Hey it's nice to see you too Rin," Tommy said, as I let him go. "Who's the Chick? Ian's latest Girlfriend?" he whispered into my ear.

"Actually thats Alice," I said, "you know the one I've been dating for about five months now."

"Thats Alice?" Tommy asked with a spurt of surprise. "You Hound Dog."

"So thats Alice?" Joyce said, walking over and giving me a hug. "It's nice to see you again Rin."

"Yeah," I agreed. "You guys haven't changed since the last time I saw you. It's kind of hard to believe that you've graduated from college already. Hows being an RN doing for you?"

"It's alright," Joyce said. "I work for a Local doctor and the pays alright. Enough for me to live on my own at least. Thats more to say than Tommy."

"Hey, you opted for a sort Degree, I'm still in college here," Tommy snapped. "Sorry that my job that I have just pays minimum wage."

"Yeah," Joyce coolly responded "No one said you had to become a teacher."

"A teacher?" I asked. "Your wanting to become a teacher?"

"Yeah," Tommy said shuffling his feet.

"That's funny," I said. Looking over at Alice. "Alice is a teacher herself."

"Thats an admirable dream," Alice said as she walked over. "Teaching is one of the many things people do but there are those who it is there calling. I can tell you would make a great teacher if you put yourself to it."

"Okay Okay," I said. "This room is getting a little too crowded." I walked off with Alice following me into the Den to watch what was left of the game.

I sat down on the Love seat, and Alice sat beside me. The Chicago Bears were having there asses handed to them, by the New England Patriots. I wasn't that interested in the game, I just sat there watching it with out really watching it. I was actually inside my head, thinking, about my future. Open a business is what I wanted to do. But now I have no idea, if thats such a good idea.

Just as the Game ended Grandma Rinna and Grandpa Thomas got to the house. Soon followed by Grandma Jane and Grandpa Jim. The formalities of greeting went all around once again, and grandma Rinna, like Tommy thought Alice was Ian's Latest Girlfriend. But then I had to explain it to her. We all sat there in the Den the TV Turned off, and stories of how everyone is doing passed around. Everyone loved Alice, and told me how lucky I was to have her. They didn't have to tell me, I knew. Alice is the apple of my eye. The one I love, and the one I hope to love till the day death do us part.

"Okay Dinners Ready," My mom said as she walked into the den.

Everyone got up and walked into the dining room, I was heading over to the second table in the room when my dad stopped me. "Joyce and Tommy are going to sit over there this year," He said. "Since you have a guest, they opted to let you two sit at the main table."

We sat down at the table. By Grandpa Thomas, the food spread out. Before us looked spectacular. We all bowed our heads ad Uncle Bill said grace. Once it was said, Grandpa Jim carved the turkey. Our plates passed around filled to the brim with: Turkey, Sweet Potatoes, Mashed potatoes, Corn, Broccoli Casserole, Cranberry Relish, and Corn muffins. We ate till we were full, and the food almost gone. We sat for a minute before my mom came back into the room carrying the Sweet Potato Pie that me and Alice had made for to day followed by June carrying the Pumpkin Pie she made.

Both the pies passed around, I took a a small slice of both of them. The Sweet Potato Pie was great but held no torch to the Pumpkin Pie that June made. After the Pies were devoured everyone groaned with satisfaction, as we left the table and back into the Den. We sat and talked, the snow started to pour harder. Everyone was starting to feel sleepy as the food we ate processed. Everyone getting ready for the night. "Joyce was staying with June, Grandpa Thomas, and Grandma Rinna were staying in the Guest bedroom, Grandpa Jim and Grandma Jane are staying in the office, Uncle Ian and Tommy are sleeping on the Futon and Uncle Bill and Aunt Helen are sleeping on the Futon in the living room, and you will be staying with me." I said turning to Alice. As everyone got up. "I'll get the bags out of the car, and I'll meet you up stairs."

I walked back into the house, carrying our bags, that we brought for the night. As I walked up the stairs I heard everyone shuffling around. I walked into my room and saw Alice sitting at the foot of my bed. Looking through one of my old Picture Albums that were among the books. That I had in my room. "My families something else isn't it?" I asked setting the bags down. Walking over to see what album she was looking at. It was one of my old albums from when I was a kid.

"Yeah they are," She said closing the album and putting it back on the shelf. "Now I see why we are so perfect for each other."

"And why is that?" I asked walking up behind her putting my arms around her.

"We both come from big families," She turned around my arms still around her. "Now that I've met your family, will you come to meet mine?"

"When?" I asked.

"This Christmas," Alice said giving me a tender kiss. "I'm sure they would love to meet you."

"Sure," I answered. "you've met my entire family. So I would love to meet yours." I let go of her, and grabbed my bag, to head to the bathroom. "I'll give you some privacy so you can get changed, and I'll head down to the bathroom and change. If you need to use the restroom its the to the right and the second door on the left."

I walked out of the room and into the bathroom to get changed. And when I got back into the room Alice had changed and was sitting on the bed waiting for me to get back. We went crawled into the bed, and went to sleep.

When we awoke the next morning the snow had subsided but left a fair deal covering the place. My Mom was in the kitchen busy cooking breakfast, I grabbed two mugs from the cabinet and filled them with Coffee, and walked back into the Den where Alice had curled up on the love seat next to the fire that my Dad had built. "Here," I said handing her the mug of coffee while sitting down beside her.

"You two remind me of me and your mother," my Dad said as we sat there. "We were exactly the same way you two act 20 years ago. But then times change, and our love still holds strong." My Mom walked into the room, to tell us that breakfast was ready. "Hey Hun, come over here for a second." She walked over there."Tell me something, who do those two remind you of?"

She looked over at me and Alice, for a second and Clasped her hands together. "20 years to this very day,"She said. "And that exact same love seat in this house. Time seems to have repeated itself." A tear swept down her cheek. But not a tear of sadness, it was one of Joy.

After breakfast we went upstairs to change, I never knew that about my parents. I knew that the house belonged to Grandma Jane and Grandpa Jim, and the furniture. But then 20 years ago, My parents were the exact same way, as me and Alice, and time seemed to have repeated itself this morning, to spread the joy of our love to others.

Once we were changed, we headed back down stairs, and were the last ones to leave, Uncle Ian had a flight to catch so he left right after breakfast. But my mom wanted to talk to Alice for a little before we left. I went out to the car, and started it up to get it warmed up before we left. When I came back my mom drew me in a hug."Please keep care of yourself and take good care of her," She whispered into my ear. "You two remind me so much of me and your father, so hold her close to your heart."

"I will," I said as she let go of me.

We walked back out to the car. And I backed out of the driveway, mom and dad embracing each other waving out to us. As we drove off into the morning.

Chapter 22: Christmas Shopping

Well thats half the problem, My family absolutely loves Alice, now here's the next Part. Will her family like me? And a better question what should I get Alice for Christmas? Those thoughts chased through my head as I walked into the mall. The snow flakes on my coat starting to melt and the mixed sounds of Christmas Carols played over the loud speaker, Screaming kids and the endless chatter of the shoppers, filled the air.

I walked through the mall looking at the window displays thinking, what to get the one I hold most dear? What to get? My mind was blank, I had no idea. But then I walked past a Jewelry store and then it hit me like a sack of bricks. I waked in, and was instantly, targeted.

"May I help you?" A woman asked.

Normally I would just say I am looking but then I really need help this time. I had vo iead what to get Alice. "You just read me like a book," I answered. "I am looking for something for the Love of my life and I have no idea what to get."

"I see," She responded. "How long have you two been together?"

"About a year," I answered. "And I have loved her for every second of it."

"May I suggest a Love knot necklace?" She asked showing me a collection of varying length chains with the same ornate knot tied into them. "Love Knots are a symbol of two peoples love, bound to eternity."

"This is perfect," I said looking at them. "How much are they?"

"They start at 150$ and go up from there," The Jeweler answered.

Anything for the perfect gift for the perfect woman. I told myself. "If someone was going to buy one for you, which would you want?" I asked the Jeweler. "This woman is very special to me, and I want to find the perfect gift."

"I would want one that is sterling silver," She answered. "And long enough to fit around my neck but then short enough that it is visible. This one would be a perfect one," She said holding one. "This one is 179.97$."

"I'll take it," I said holding it in my hands. The light glinting off of it, giving it a sparkle. I handed the necklace back over to the Jeweler.

"Okay," The jeweler said ringing up the purchase. "It is 192.57." I fished into my pocket, and grabbed my wallet. I had been saving cash for 3 months just to buy something special for Alice. "I handed over 2 one hundred dollar bills and took my change and the box that had the necklace in it. "I'm sure she will love it, and please come back, and shop with us again some time."

"I will, when I want to get that next perfect gift," I said as I walked away.

Chapter 23: Going Home

"Mom," I said into the phone. "I told you that Alice wants me to meet her family, and I want to meet them too. I'll see you after the New Year. I'll talk to you latter." I hung up the phone, and turned to look at Alice. "Sorry about that, Mom's trying to get us to stay for Christmas. You ready to go?"

"Rin," She said embracing me and giving me a kiss. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be."

"Well then lets get this show on the road," I said grabbing the bags, and making sure I had the train Tickets. "I've never taken a trip by train."

"I wish we could fly but then do you really want to fool with Airport Security?" Alice sighed. "Besides it gives us some time alone. On the trip. Some time to be together."

"You should be on Santa's Naughty list," I teased, her as I hopped into the cab after her.

The ride to the train station was an uneventful one. The highlight was when the Cab driver commented on how nice it was to see two people who love each other so much. But other than that, there was nothing that eventful. As the Cab stopped in front of the Rail Road Station I stepped out of the cab and handed the cab driver a 20 dollar bill before opening the Alice. "Merry Christmas," The cab driver said as he started to pull away.

"Well were here," I said,looking at the train station. "It looks like we have an hour before the train leaves so we might as well go on." we walked into the station, garland hung from the rafters, and Christmas carolers were singing off in the distance. We walked to the platform where our train was and showed our tickets to the conductor as we boarded the train. We had a private compartment, all to our selves, because the train was not packed. As sat and read, a book waiting for the train to start. Finally the seat began to vibrate as the train moved slowly forward. The station gave way to the edge of town and the light snow that had been falling since early this morning. Soon the scenery changed from suburban areas to snow covered fields. As the trip progressed. Alice fell asleep, her head resting on my shoulder. Put me into a state of calm and peace, that caused a wave of love and compassion for her to bubble up inside me.

"Alice," I said lightly nudging her, trying to wake her up. "We're almost there."

Slowly Alice stirred from her peaceful slumber. "How long have I been asleep?" She asked drowsily.

"About 3 hours," I said brushing her hair with my hand as she laid against me. I couldn't help but smile, Alice was the world to me, and to have her, there beside me, sleeping, and using me as a pillow. I wished for that moment to last forever. But all things must come to an end, the train, slowly came to a stop. "Come on, lets, go." I Got up and grabbed our bags. As the train came to a stop, in the station I walked down the steps first to help Alice down.

"There they are," Alice said pointing out a couple that looked as if they were in there mid 50's. "Mom, Dad!" Alice exclaimed as we walked closer, almost running to meet them, flinging her arms around her mother. I walked up slowly giving her, a moment, to rejoice in seeing her parents. A smile, spread across my face, to see her so happy just made me happy. She looked just like her mother, only younger.

"You must be Rin," Alice's father, said extending a hand. "I'm Alice's Father, Joesph."

"It's a pleasure to meet you sir," I said returning his hand shake. "And you must be, Linda?" I asked turning to Alice's mother, as she walked over giving me a Hug.

"So you are Rin," Linda said, releasing me from the hug. "Alice has told me great things about you, and We are glad you could come home with Alice for the holidays."

"The Pleasure is all mine," I said smiling. "Though not so much my mothers. She tried everything to get me and Alice to stay for Christmas."

"Well let's get going shall we?" Joesph asked. "I'm sure you two must be hungry, after such a long trip, and I'm sure you two would like to get changed."

Alice and I followed Joesph, and Linda out to there car. I rode in the back, with Alice. The trip out of the City was that of a nice one, the red and green light's stung from the light poles were light up carolers were walking up and down the street, and the snow was pretty heavy outside.

"And here we are," Joesph said as he pulled into the garage attached to the house.

"You have a Beautiful house," I said as I got out of the car and walked around to open the door for Alice.

"You are such a Gentleman," Linda said as I opened the door for Alice. "It's nice to see a young man that is such a gentleman, these days."

"Linda," I said, as I closed the car door. "It's how I was brought up. If you care for someone you show it any way you can, and considering I love Alice with all my heart, I would walk to the ends to the world if it meant that I could be near her."

"You really do love our daughter don't you Rin?" Linda said tears forming in her eyes.

I looked over at Alice, tears were in her eyes as well, and Joesph just looked at me like I was his own son. "Yes, I do."

Chapters 9 through 17

Chapter 9: A House In the Hills

"Is this the place?" Paul asked as we walked up to the house.

"Yeah it is," I said as I walked through the gate. A man was standing on the porch waiting for us. "Able Yong?"

"That depends are you a Mr. Rin Porter?" Able asked. "Because I am waiting for a Mr. Rin Porter to show up right now.?

"Yes I am," I answered. "And this is Jason and Paul. We are the ones looking for a place to rent."

"Well the lets get the grand tour started shall we?" Able said as he turned around and Unlocked the door.

As we walked into the house it opened into a Den/Living room area, to the right was a Kitchen/Dining room and to the left was a Stair well leading to the top floor the master suite and one of half bath. Up stairs two of the bedrooms and the other bathroom.

"This is a pretty nice house," Jason leaned over and said as we walked up the stairs and looked through the two bedrooms.

"Yeah it is," I agreed.

"Well what do you think?" Able asked, as we descended back down the stairs.

"Well what do you guys think?" I asked turning to Paul and Jason. "I have enough cash to handle the Deposit, right now, if you guys give the word."Jason looked over at Paul and Paul just nodded. I turned back to face Able. "Sure, Will you accept Cash as an Deposit?"

"Cash, or Check, just no credit." Able Joked.

"Well then its a deal," I said shaking his hand, and handing over the 250 bucks.

I'll have the Paperwork all drawn up by next weekend. Seeing as you guys are all over 18, and are about to graduate from high school I'll have it for you on Saturday."

So we now had a place to live, and two weeks left of school. And Next weekend it will all be finalized. The only problem I have now is how do I let the guys know about me and Alice. Paul was one thing, He would just probably stop talking to me for a few days, but then Jason was different, He is my best friend, and I lied to him. I am going to have to let this down on him Gently. But not right now.

As the week went by me, Jason and Paul, just sat and pondered, what we were going to do with the place. The truth is, I was going to sack my Room at home, because Lived in the basement in an apartment like setting already, I had a fair collection of odds and ends of furniture, to put in the living room, and all they needed was there bedroom stuff.

Chapter 10: Graduation and This is Home

The day that we have awaited for half our lives finally has came, the day we enter the world. My whole family is here. The only thing that could have made this day better was if I was the Valedictorian, but sadly, my 3.4 GPA would not permit that.

As the For usual happened the Guest speaker, the top of the class giving his speech, and the limelight of walking across the stage shaking hands with the Dean and receiving your diploma. My last name started with a P so I was towards the back half of the class. I wished my name started with 5 A's so I would have been first so I could have just got it over with. As the Row ahead of us, was half way through the proceedings, We stood up and walked up towards the stage.

One more closer one more, God this is Nerve racking. Please don't let me make a complete ass out of myself. Then I heard it. "Rin Porter." They had called my name, I climbed the steps up to the as I walked half way across the stage, I glanced out at the crowd. My Entire Graduating class was that of 239 students and the on looking family and friends of the student must have been that over over 1500 people. But what made my hear sip a beat was the applause that I received, as I shook the Deans Hand and was temporarily blinded by the camera man.

I now had my degree, and as I passed by Alice I gave her a wink, though I would have like to stop grab her and kiss her, that was the least I could do. The rest of the preceding was just a blur, it went by so fast. The whole time before my name was called it seemed to move at half speed, and then after I crossed the stage it was all too quick.

"Congratulations!" My sister June said as she tackled me.

"Nice to see you too kid," I said patting her on the head.

"Congratulations," My father said handing me a Cigar. "It's a Family Tradition. To give a Cigar to your Son the day they graduate from high school. And as my dad did I spared no expense in this. It's no Cuban but it's damn near close."

I looked at the seal and it said that it was from Ecuador. "Thanks dad," I said putting it in my shirt pocket. "I'll light it up latter. You want to see the house?"

"Sure honey," My mother said. Giving me a hug.

Seeing as my family, came here in a car it was much simpler to drive there than to walk, and I told Paul and Jason to meet me there with there families so we could actually find out what we were going to do. Who was going to get what, and the such. As we drove up the road, my mother constantly said how nice of a neighborhood this was, and when we finally go to the house, we all go out. "We already decided on who got what rooms, and the such." I said as I opened the front door when two more cars pulled up into the drive. "Theres Jason and Paul." Jason's Family was just as he said they were and Paul's Family was something completely different from what I thought they would have been like. "Oh this is going to be good," Jason said wandering over from the couch.
